All year I record the locations of big berry patches so I can return in July to pick the delicious glistening fruit when it’s ripe. Berry season is here in West Michigan!!

Today I didn’t have to go far; about 20% of the berries on our property are ripe. The dark ones are blackcap raspberries (Rubus occidentalis) and I believe the red ones are some other Rubus species. To my knowledge, all fruit with many small balls (like raspberries) are edible in Michigan.

If you know of any good berry spots, now is the time to go get some!
