Now

This is a now page. It’s a list of what I’m up to. Less ephemeral and more big picture than a single post.

As the nownownow.com/about page describes, “Think of what you’d tell a friend you hadn’t seen in a year.”

What I’m doing now:

  • Hanging out with an 10+ month-old named June (my daughter)
  • Finishing up a composition commission for two trombones and electronics, to be premiered at the 2018 International Trombone Festival. Commissioned by Chris Van Hof (check him out, he’s great!). The title of the piece is “Make More Noise with this One Weird Trick”
  • Building a personal wiki based on my collection of notes written in markdown in plain text files. A fantastic little thing called gollum grabs these files and makes them into a private website accessible via my VPN
  • Started carrying a paper notebook and pen to get super organized. Working on combining this with my existing todo.txt list and DIY journal web app
  • Weaning myself from such a dependence on social media, especially Facebook. Learning about the Indieweb, using this website as the primary source of my internet postings
  • Using RSS feeds to keep up on news and social media accounts instead of staring at Facebook for hours. Set up my own tiny-tiny-rss server. Also using rss-bridge to turn social media posts into RSS feeds
  • Fishing, hiking, kayaking, and enjoying the outdoors as much as possible! Incorporating some foraged items into cooking projects
